Mapping for Results is a partnership between AidData and the World Bank to show the precise locations where aid flows are directed within countries. The initiative’s original goal was to map all active World Bank projects in Sub-Saharan Africa—learn more about the process in this video:
Following the proof of concept, the project expanded to cover roughly 2,500 active World Bank projects working in over 30,000 locations in 144 countries. The Mapping for Results initiative is part of the World Bank Open Data Initiative, and the data can be downloaded, expanded, manipulated, and re-used without restriction.
The Mapping for Results dataset is the output of more than one year of collaborative effort between AidData and the World Bank Institute. AidData brings expertise in standardizing and enhancing project-level information on development activities to the partnership. AidData provides technical oversight and quality control for the geocoding process, which follows the UCDP/AidData methodology developed jointly with Uppsala University in Sweden. As part of the UCDP/AidData methodology, each project is coded twice, with the results of both coders compared and combined into one final dataset. This ensures that the geocoding process produces the most thorough and accurate location data possible.
